Some very insightful quotes on humor. We won't start with the usual cliche, "laughter is the best medicine".
But let us get one thing clear. Laughing at others is not humor. Laughing at oneself is humor. The former is satisfying your mean streak. Laughing at others is a weapon.
A well-developed sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life.
William Arthur Ward
Very sensible. Normal people use humor to balance themselves. But what about the people who have faced situation that are very injuring to the mind. Deep grief. Humor does not help.
Humor is the instinct for taking pain playfully.
Max Eastman.

LIGHTER SIDE.....
The passenger tapped the cab driver on the shoulder to ask him something.
The driver screamed, lost control of the car, nearly hit a bus, went up on the sidewalk, and stopped inches from a department store window. For a second everything went quiet in the cab, then the driver said,
"Look mister, don't ever do that again. You scared me half to death!"
The passenger apologised and said he didn't realise that a little tap could scare him so much.
The driver replied,
"You're right. I'm sorry, really it's not your fault. Today is my first day as a cab driver. I've been driving a hearse for 25 years."

Some pains are too deep to laugh off. Does one see a rape victim trying to forget the trauma using humor?
Humor is laughing at what you haven't got when you ought to have it.
Langston Hughes
Same idea. Laughing off your woes. It is like giving up.
Humor does not diminish the pain - it makes the space around it get bigger.
Allen Klein.
Exactly. It is a defensive mechanism.
Everything human is pathetic. The secret source of humor itself is not joy but sorrow. There is no humor in heaven.
Mark Twin
Yes. It is a way of dealing with grief and petty sorrows. Dealing with something beyond our strength to cope.
Analyzing humor is like dissecting a frog. Few people are interested and the frog dies of it.
E. B. White
Very true. But when we dissect it one finds that humor has its limitations. Remember the rape victim analogy? Humor is useless there. Love will help and overcome the grief in a peaceful way. The other way is destruction. Hollywood flicks. Gun down the rapist. It destroys the rapist but it also destroys the victim's mind too.
